The Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid is located in the heart of Madrid, on Murillo Square, in front of the Prado Museum. With a total area of approximately 8 hectares, it is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Madrid.
The Royal Garden was created in 1755 by King Fernando III on both banks of the Manzares River. In 1774, King Charles III ordered him to be transferred to his present place, Place Moreau.
The park was not only intended to show plants, but also to explain botany and provide samples for scientific research on plants and the division of plant species. In 1942, the park was considered one of the most important artistic symbols of tourism in Spain.
The park consists of 3 graduated outdoor sections, 2 greenhouses and collections totaling more than thirty thousand plants and flowers and more than one thousand five hundred trees.
